Hashtags in education
I think that
using educational hashtags will aid the teacher more than the student,
especially if they are new. The reason I say this is because many new teachers
are overwhelmed their first year and it is difficult for them to cope with many
students at once. One of the hashtags that I liked was #TT, meaning teacher Tuesday.
Many experienced teachers use #TT and can provide many suggestions that are
great for teachers that are starting out. When I did my student teaching, the
principal at my school was using twitter and implemented #TT in her twitter. We
had to follow her on twitter and she posted many helpful suggestion and even
applications that would help us complete tasks and engage the classroom at a
faster rate. This was essential because classrooms were 45 minutes long. Even
though the teacher was present, we still had to take over and ensure students
did not fall behind.
#GlobalEd was another hashtag I liked because it shows
experiences from teachers of all over the world. You can see pictures of
students engaging in technology and the results of the findings in each task.
Also you have many testimonies of people were some have bad experiences and
some good, and you can find a classroom that is similar to yours and perhaps
implement the same teaching method. Finally, I chose #vitalcpd which is
effective use of technology in the classroom. The reason I chose this was
because classrooms are 45 minutes long. You need technology that has been
proven effective for students in classrooms. In my 11th grade math classroom I
will need testimonies of other teachers that used certain applications and how
much it helped them make their classroom more engaging. Overlall, twitter
hashtags can make your classroom much more interesting and engaging than a
traditional classroom.
Twitter can
actually be very beneficial for use inside the classroom. I think that many of
today’s issues however, are mainly because the instructors are not familiar
with many social media apps that are for education. Students most of the time
will know how to use any social media application, or even program for
education. It is however, the instructor’s responsibility to fully understand
how twitter can be used for education. That being said, I think that twitter
can really increment how a teachers and students engage themselves and can
actually work together as a team to achieve success. My focus in the classroom
will be grade 11th math, so my students will be engaged with twitter
and other applications such as edmodo. Hash tags are essential to learning; the
purpose of a hash tag is to connect with other users with the same subject. The
way this can help your classroom is by being able to see someone elses point of
view. From a learning perspective of a student, if you are able to use Hashtags
in assignments, the students can simply search the hash tag to see where other
students are, and how they are doing in the assignment, and their
findings. If you are able to develop a
hashtag that is unique, then that is where it gets better, because you will
narrow down the results to your classroom.
Another reasons why hashtags are important, especially in technology,
are that you can actually share your findings with others. If you happened to
be ahead on an assignment this can work by helping out your fellow classmates,
twitter has been essential for researches that are seeking cures for diseases.
So when dealing with difficult problems in the classroom, you can search by
hashtags to find suggestions or experiences from others with the same problem.
