I
found Edmodo to be very familiar with Google forms. However, despite the
similarities it feels more easy to use and user friendly. The thing that I
liked about Edmodo is that I can invite my students to my group and assign them
different tasks. This will play a very important role in students 12th
grade and beyond. I think that where Edmodo can really help is by increasing
the level of engagement in the classroom. Edmodo helps the student investigate
and cooperative with data with other classmates. This is important because the
other students will be able to learn by participating in the polls. I think
that the poll feature in Edmodo is very useful in a classroom where the teacher
has to ask for the student’s feedback regularly. It is very important to create
polls in the classroom so that the student feels that his or her opinion
matters. Many classrooms do not put as much attention in student feedback, and
teachers spend more time lecturing without realizing if a student is actually learning.
This is where Edmodo becomes vital to increased learning. Classrooms as many
teachers have stated, are only equipped with 45 minute lectures. There is not
enough time to ensure that a student is learning by simply giving out a lecture
in a traditional classroom. The teacher needs to be much more creative and use
technological tools such as edmodo to provide maximum effective learning. With
Edmodo you will be tackling three very important challenges in the classroom
when you are teaching technology. These are engagement, feedback, and group
activity. Instead of doing one after the other like that of a traditional
classroom, you will be doing all three because you are using edmodo tools. This
is very important in a classroom because you will be saving precious time. I
did not see any lowlights of using edmodo. It is however, imperative that the
teacher understands how to use the technology in order for it to be most
effective. Ideally, these tools should help your classroom be on time on each
lesson. Edmodo does require Internet, but this should be an upside. All of the
assignments will be available online, and the student can complete them and
submit them on edmodo. You will be able to extend deadlines and see how
everyone is doing, and see if they are having difficulties and etc. You will be
receiving constant feedback and that is very important because you will be able
to tell if a student is learning or not.

ResponderBorrarFrederick,
ResponderBorrarThank you for sharing your ideas for how you would implement Edmodo in the educational setting. I agree that as educators we really don’t promote student feedback as much as we should. Often times, educators who are in grade levels that undergo state testing, are more concerned about maintaining the scope and sequence of their content areas to ensure all concepts have been taught by April. I do think that as educators, we can improve on providing students with “wait time” to allow them to process their ideas and understanding through classroom discussions. Thank you for sharing your wonderful insights Frederick. :o)
All the best. :o)

Frederick,
ResponderBorrarI agree with your idea of student inclusion and ensuring that the student feels that their voices matter. Polls are an excellent way to do that. Also, Edomodo makes it very easy for educators because of its simple, and very user friendly interface. It is something that teachers should definitely take advantage of.
